Ökuskóli 17.is was established in 2008.

The author of the teaching material is Sigurður Jónasson, driving instructor and police officer, and he has years of experience of teaching in driving schools and in making educational materials. Sigurður has also taught traffic science, e.g. at the State Police College, at the University of Akureyri and at the University of Iceland. He also trains police officers in emergency driving.

He has for years been one of the most popular driving teachers in the capital area both teaching how to drive a car and motorcycles.

Bjarnþóra M. Pálsdóttir is a driving instructor and works at the school as a pedagogical consultant, as she has extensive experience in counselling and teaching.

Bjarnþóra or Þóra as she is usually called, offers practical lessons in, English and Spanish in the capital area and at Reykjanes area.

They have held a number of courses for drivers who have been banned from driving or lost their licence from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Sigurður has also taught courses run by the Icelandic Driving Instructors' Association for driving teachers and driving tests examiners. Sigurður has been a keynote speaker on courses and conferences for The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration (IRCA) and other establishments that take interest in traffic safety.
